Anyone know of a 1/48 plastic kit of the Spiteful? The only kit I know of is the limited edition Silver Cloud which is a little pricey with all the white metal.
Plus, what is the best kit to kick off a FR Mk XVIII?

Well if you want an injected 1/48 Spiteful, the Silver Cloud kit is the only one available. While pricey, it is a very nice kit. I’ve seen several at shows and they looked great

Falcon did a very nice vacform one. Not sure if it’s OOP or not.

The Silver Cloud is the only injection moulded kit of the Spiteful/Seafang. But it is limited run, so it will take lots of extra work to assemble. But it also has some dimensional errors, and shape problems. Falcon has an excellent vacform of the Spiteful/Seafang. And having built both, the Falcon is the easier of the two. The Falcon kit can be purchased from a variety of sources.

Go Falcon vac for a Spiteful. You can steal a tail (and probably a few other odds and ends) from the Airfix Spit 24 if you want.
Falcon also does a full vac of the Spit 18, probably the most accurate basic kit for this. You could also take the fuselage from that Airfix Spit 24 you just ruined for the Spiteful, join it to the tail from the Academy XIVe (no doubt with effort), and put either the Academy wing or some other wing under it. But you’ll need a big rudder, too, and so on.

The Falcon vacuforms of the Spitfire 18 and the Spiteful are the only *accurate* kits of these aircraft in 1/48. Don’t let “vacuform” scare you off. These are good kits. See my review of the Spitfire 18 at Modeling Madness in the Reviews Index.
