RT 28/6 should go to the printer by 16 April.  A feature article will be Vic Sheuerman's Hurricane Mk.XII that will link to supplementary information on the IPMS Canada webpage.
RT 28/6 is planned for mailing out by the end of April.

A letter and proposal for RT was received from member Dana Nield and discussed. Dana suggested that RT look at publishing articles that would spotlight various hobby shops, museums, IPMS Canada Chapters, and individual members.  There was some merit found in part of the proposal and Jamie will be contacting Dana to get the ball rolling.

Due to some ongoing QC issues with the current printer, we took a look at going with another printer.  The investigation revealed that changing over to any new printer will mean a dramatic rise in production costs that the current membership cost would not cover.  In other words, we're OK with the minor problems and will seek a more diplomatic solution.

The question of the value of product reviews in RT was raised for discussion.  Where conditions permit, fewer reviews will be published in RT, and more may be shifted towards the webpage.  Additionally, the Editor will be publishing and encouraging word count limits for most reviews.  Some items are almost novellas, and an aim point may help the more prolific writers to trim down their submissions to more reasonable levels.

We looked at going to a heavier cover and decided against it for a couple of reasons.  One was that the heavier stock would put us within one gram of busting our current postage limit, and the other was the concerns raised by members about Canada Post's current handling and delivery of RT.  A heavier cover would be likely even more damaged by the more zealous postal workers who seem to be bent on providing our members with a creased RT each issue.

Membership/Circulation

From RT 28/5 we have received back only 8 out of 43 renewals sent out, plus a few stragglers from previous issues' renewals, plus 3 new members.  John pointed out that issue 5 in any volume year is our worst renewal period, for some mysterious reason.

John is moving along with the new label database for RT mailing.  After about six tries with different applications, we'll be going with MS Access.  John is going to make every effort to have this ready for the next RT mailing at the end of April.

Marketing

The letter to retailers has been sent, but no replies have been received back yet.

All 'first-quality' copies of our 1/72 / 1/48 RCAF Aces decal sheet are gone. The remaining sheets are all fine, except that the four 1/72 'C' and 'C1' roundels are out of register.  We decided to sell them at a discount price of $10, with a clear advisory to potential buyers of the problem.

Archivist

Randy asked that Sid return the Archive copies of old RTs to their proper storage area at the Archivist's home.  Sid noted they were still safe in his library (read as 'the top of his toilet tank'), but he will return them soon.

Chapter Liaison

The problem with some Charter Chapters not having an IPMS Canada member at the helm has been satisfactorily resolved.

Jean announced that we have two new Chapters in IPMS Canada - IPMS DeHavilland Scale Modellers in Toronto, and IPMS CAN-UKS in the UK.

The possibility of having family-discounted memberships in IPMS Canada was discussed.  It would be prohibitively expensive to manage the postage cost of multiple RTs to one address, so this idea was not seen as workable at this time.

Special Projects

Decal sales have been good this month - Aces-4; P-40s-5; and 9 copies of the new Mustang IV sheet went out.

The last 50 pristine
1/48 & 1/72 RCAF Aces Decal Sheet were sold to commercial enterprises. The disposition of the remaining 'seconds' will see them sold at a discount price via the website.

The Mustang IV sheet will be the subject of a feature article in the new Model Airplane Monthly magazine.
