Welcome to the IPMS Canada Chapter & Member Liaison page! The intent of this page is to keep our Chapters and Individual Members up to date on various activities, let prospective new chapters know just how to make their application to IPMS Canada, and to be a forum for new ideas and methods to bring our IPMS Canada family closer together.

Here, you will find all of the information on how to start your own IPMS Canada chapter. It’s quite easy, and in almost no time you can have a group of like-minded modellers meeting on a regular basis to discuss any and all modelling topics. We have twenty-four chapters across Canada and a twenty-fifth in Memphis, Tennessee. We are most certainly “International” in our outlook!

We'll maintain a calendar of events, showing what’s going to be happening over the future two years. Chapters will let us know of their shows, activities and competitions, and we’ll post them here for all to see.

And, as new ideas and suggestions are actioned, the CL page will expand to incorporate them. Indeed, any thoughts on the expansion and improvement of this page are solicited from all IPMS Canada members.

So take a few minutes to look around.  If you have any questions and want to contact a member of the IPMS National Executive, you are invited to contact me, Gary Barling. I'm the Chapter Liaison member for IPMS Canada, and I'm always ready to discuss any aspect of Chapter life. You can contact me at: CML@ipmscanada.com ; or 613-687-7590; or by mail at 29 Selley Street, Petawawa ON   K8H 3G9.

January, 2010

As you may know, IPMS Ottawa conducts a competition every two years named "CAPCON." At each CAPCON, I sponsor a trophy called the "Twin's Trophy" that commemorates the "twinning" of IPMS Ottawa with IPMS Farnborough in the UK. The last two TT themes were WW2-oriented: "Battle of Britain" and "Dieppe: August 19, 1942." The guiding principle in the selection of themes is that forces from both Great Britain and Canada have to have taken part in, or otherwise have been involved in, an operation, campaign, or other "military involvement." I've decided to get the "modern era modellers" in on the act for CAPCON 2011, and really open up the time frame in question. Accordingly, the Twin's Trophy theme for CAPCON 2011 is "Cold War Europe: 1950-1990." If it was moored at a European naval base, flew from a European air base, or drove from a European Kaserne, it's a potential entry for the upcoming TT. Warsaw Pact subjects as well as those of NATO countries are most acceptable. Figures and dioramas as well as stand-alone models are invited to the party as well.

I am reliably advised (as of the January 6th meeting of IPMS Ottawa) that CAPCON 2011 is on the books. Accordingly, entrants for the 2011 TT now have about twenty months to get their entries ready. Good luck to all!

Cheers!

Gary
