Messerschmitt Bf 110G-4 Exterior Set for Revell Kit 1/32

Manufacturer:Eduard
Kit Number: 32-020

32-020 is designed for the Revell 1/32 Messerschmitt Bf 110G-4 and is a companion to the cockpit set 32-019. It is designed for the exterior and the nose gun bay.

This set contains two frets of brass with a total of 71 parts, 15 of which are for the nose gun area. The remaining parts cover the cockpit armour plate, DF loop, radiator and oil cooler intakes and outlets, some landing gear details and small antennas. Considering the entire set, the parts I was most impressed by were the intake grills for the flame damping exhaust. These small parts are absolute jewels.

While not being a big fan of exposed gun compartments, I built up the set just to see how everything fit and gauge the overall impression. The two part numbers 5, which are the inner ammo feed chutes are too tall. I suggest trimming off about 1/16" from the bottom before bending the parts to the final shape. The instructions also indicate that the right hand nose gun barrel should be shortened so that it is in line with the left side. However, based on photographs shown in the Famous Airplanes of the World #41, I do not think they should be even. I would leave the right barrel as is. All this aside, the finished area is a 100% improvement over the 2 stock parts supplied by Revell.

Each underwing radiator inlet consists of 3 pieces and once folded into shape, create a realistically convincing area. The only shortcoming with this area is that none of the detail is visible when looking from the rear, into the outlet area. You will see a large amount of featureless brass, so ensure that it is painted a suitably dark colour.

Sixteen small braces are provided to add some detail to the inner surfaces of the wheel wells and the inclusion of these parts provides the opportunity to add more shadows and highlights to the wheel wells. About the only thing Eduard overlooked in this set was the inside face of the landing gear doors.

Once you get all the small antennas and boarding ladder in place, be careful how you handle or transport the model as the brass is quite thin and bends very easily. Overall, everything went smoothly except the windscreen armour plate. This part proved to be the most difficult to bend into shape and mate properly with the kit supplied glass. Overall, compared to the other recent releases, I could recommend this set to anyone who is a novice in working with photo-etched.
