Well, there's no turning back now!

Spent about two hours in front of the boob tube last night (the wife had "The Bachelor" on) adding rivets to the top of my Tamiya P-47 bubbletop wing using my home made pounce wheel.
I'll be sanding them down a bit with some 1500 wet 'n dry to make them less pronounced:

Derek, wearing his aircraft inspector's hat...
Very pretty, but in actual fact, totally inpractical.

The spacing and edge distance of the rivets means that the wing skin would tear off the moment the aircraft went into a dive. And of course, these rivets are countersunk and would not be visible at this scale.....
But I agree with the other poster.. Tony is really sick, which is a pity, since he is such a nice man...
All in jest, of course...

For those of you who were interested in my pounce wheel, here it is:

Pounce2

It was made from a length of brass tube with a slot cut in the end for a cog from a dead Timex watch. The axle is a sewing needle that has been hammered flat on the ends to hold it in place. Finally, a section of aluminum tube (I.D. of which equals the O.D. of the brass tube) was superglued on to provide a better grip.

For making rivets

It's for reproducing rivets in 48th scale. Simply roll it across the surface of the model.
Have a look at my original post:

Not much skill is required, although one does need a lot of patience.

I am more interested in the photo! How was your digital camera set up for this?

Photo setup

I set up the camera as follows:
Resolution set to max (2272x1704)
Mode set to aperture priority
Aperture set to f8.0
Flash set to Automatic
Macro turned on
Max optical zoom (3X)
I took the picture from about 12" away, with my hand about 2' in front of a neutral
coloured wall and then cropped the picture in Photoshop.

How much pressure would you need to exert...

Fri Oct 17 07:18:24 2003
to get the teeth to bite into the surface with this tool? It's a hell of an ingenious piece of work, one which I have the bits to do here... well, except for the sewing needle, but I can get one of those.

Pressure

It goes without saying that the pressure will depend on the hardness of the plastic. I apply approximately the same pressure as I would if I were scoring the plastic to cut it.
I always practice on an invisible portion of the model first to get a feel for how hard to press.
