The Post-War Era

For your viewing pleasure a collection of photos of RCAF aircraft. If any viewers have other colour pictures from their own collections, we'd love to show them - click here for submission details. Kits and decals are available for most if not all of these types and schemes, and any of them would make an excellent model. Build a Canadian aircraft today!

In a similar scheme, a Sikorsky H-34, photographed about the same time.

A Grumman Albatross (strictly speaking, a CSR-110) in aluminum paint and white. The Canadian version of the Albatross was different from that used by most other operators, having more powerful engines
Lockheed Neptune in the early scheme of overall gloss Sea Blue with high visibility markings on the wingtips and tail. The fuselage 'RCAF" marking replaced squadron coding in early 1958, so this picture was probably taken later that year

Douglas Dakota of Air Training Command

Not strictly an RCAF machine, but this picture of an RCN Avenger is so nice we had to include it. It is in the Dark Grey over Light Grey scheme. These correspond to the British colours Extra Dark Sea Grey and Sea Grey Medium. The AB codes mark it as an aircraft of VS 881 aboard HMCS Magnificent (note the squadron crest also). The markings put the time in the 1950-52 period. A Bristol Freighter sitting at an RCAF base somewhere in Europe. Perhaps some clever member could produce a conversion article for RT based on the old Airfix Bristol Super Freighter kit?

Two of the 1956 Sky Lancer aerobatic team Sabre Mk.6's. There were several Skylancer liveries over the life of the team. Additional info from long-time member Jim Craik: "The first 240 Sabre Mk.6's were fitted with the hard edge '6-3' wing, and later refitted with the slatted '6-3' wing."
